Estuarine component of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the MM Port FZE Project, Nigeria
Anchor was contracted by ERM to assist with the estuarine aspects of an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) being undertaken for the development of a port terminal at Onne Port Complex, located on the Bonny River Estuary in Rivers State, Nigeria. The estuary is an important aquatic system in the Niger Delta area and serves as a major source of fish and employment for local inhabitants of the area, as well as being a gateway for several industrial and commercial activities. The first phase of this project involved a Gap Analysis of the existing estuarine baseline field studies, informed by a literature review, identifying gaps and the actions necessary to address them. In the second phase of the project, Anchor developed a baseline description of the Bonny River Estuary environment, undertook an estuarine Impact Assessment and provided input into the estuarine component of the Environmental and Social Management and Monitoring Plan (ESMMP).
