CIF Kenya Nature-People-Climate Investment Plan
The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) is a multilateral climate finance partnership that channels funds through Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) for projects addressing climate change in low and middle income countries. The CIF’s Nature, People and Climate (NPC) program supports the deployment of nature-based solutions (NBS) to address climate change mitigation and adaptation. It focuses on approaches to harness the potential of land resources and ecosystems in climate change by addressing context-specific barriers to achieving sustainable use and management.
Anchor worked with GoK and the World Bank, AfDB, and the IFC in the development of Kenya’s NPC program Investment Plan, which looked to mobilize resources from other public and private sector entities. The NPC program investment plan aimed to support Kenya's transition to a gender-responsive, low-carbon, and climate-resilient development pathway for inclusive green growth. This involved a stocktaking and diagnostic review of NbS in Kenya, developing three project concept notes with extensive stakeholder consultation, a prioritisation exercise which involved estimating the costs and benefits of restoration and conservation activities across Kenya at a sub-basin level and using return on investment and population and poverty information to rank the sub-basins.
